Jargon Buster: Website hosting is required for any website to be available on the internet. Available in a variety of forms and formats, types and prices, it is often best left to the company designing, developing and or managing your website.

Website hosting rates vary due to the size of the website (i.e. how many megabytes it takes up), how many visitors the website receives and how much load the website puts on the server (i.e. how much information is being sent back and forth from the server to the visitor). This is also know as bandwith.

Basic Hosting Rates:

For websites less than 50Mb (Megabytes) including pages, images, database:
 - £5/month

For websites above 50Mb there is a 10p charge per additional Megabyte of data.
For example a 100Mb website would cost £10/month (50Mb x 10p = £5)

Visitors and Load Variation Rates (Bandwith):

Websites using less than 1Gb (Gigabyte) per month do not incur any bandwidth charges.

If your website's bandwidth increases to over 1Gb per month for a period of 2 or more months concurrently, an additional £2.50 will be added to your hosting fee per additional Gb of bandwith used.
